Whitesburg Library Genealogy Resources

This is a guide to some basic genealogy resources that relate to Carroll County, Georgia.  They are located in Special Collections at the Whitesburg Library in Whitesburg.

 

Birth Records

The Carroll County Health Department and the Georgia Division of Public Health have Carroll County birth records.

Other Dates and Counties

Search the  Ancestry Library Edition (available only at the library) database for all U.S. census records from 1790 to 1930.

1890 Census records were lost in a fire.  Only a fragment exists, with just a handful of names from Georgia.  You can search the few records that remain using Ancestry.

Deeds and Mortgages

The clerk of court at the Carroll County courthouse has deed books and their indexes.

 

Maps

The Map Room in the County Administration building on College St. in Carrollton has many maps.

Marriage Records

The Probate Court at the Carroll County Courthouse has Carroll County marriage and divorce records.

 

Military

You can search for military records, especially Civil War records and World War I draft cards, in the Ancestry database on the library’s computers.
